12 Brass Street is a real address in Aba, Nigeria. It is where our founder's grandfather established his law firm — and where our founder spent his childhood afternoons after school, surrounded by books, clients, art and long conversations that ran into the evening.
He was raised in that building. Its rhythms became his rhythms. Watching a practice run on discipline, on care, on the quiet weight of doing serious work well — that was the first education.
Chief The Hon. Justice (ret'd) Cosmas Azubuko Chidiebele Ikeotuonye was born in 1921 in Ndimgbu, Otolo, Nnewi. He was educated at St. Joseph's Catholic School and at the Hope Waddell Training Institute in Calabar, and was called to the English Bar in 1958. He served in the Zikist movement and in the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC) — a life of study, of law, of civic duty.
Everything he stood for — education, excellence, service, resilience — is what this company now stands for. The name is a promise to the address it came from. From Aba to the world, in the most literal sense.
